Native Azalea Day at the Arb

Native Azalea Day + NC Arboretum

Note: Exploring the grounds and event is included with the general admission fee. There are additional costs for workshops and some tours.

The following text is a segment copied from their website (link here)

April 26, 2025

Visit the gardens this spring for Native Azalea Day, an invitation to celebrate and experience azaleas through the eyes of plant enthusiasts, botanists, and artists. In partnership with the Mountain Science Exposition, Native Azalea Day plans to bring even more excitement in its third year! For one day only, visitors can observe as plein air artists capture the scene in paint and pen, learn about the garden and its collection on a walking tour, and participate in hands-on activities for children and adults.

A shuttle to the Collection will be available between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., departing to and from the Baker Visitor Center throughout the event. Visitors are also welcome to walk to the Native Azalea Collection from the Gatehouse Parking Lot using Old Mill Road to Bent Creek Road, or can park at the Baker Visitor Center and walk down Running Cedar Road to Bent Creek Road. Walkers should be prepared to travel one mile over unpaved roads and paths.

If you are interested in the ongoing artist displays, workshops, and guided walks and tours, go to the website and see the schedule, with sign up links. (Note: some workshops have additional costs, but most of the event is available with your general admission to the NC Arboretum.)

And tune in to Green Assistant Radio every Tuesday at 11 on 103.3 Asheville FM 💚

Event Four

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Meet Me at the West Asheville Tailgate Market

Meet Me at the West Asheville Tailgate Market!!

Come out and see me, Walker (she/her) aka The Green Assistant, host of Green Assistant Radio on 103.3 Asheville FM, and ask those recycling and waste questions that are troubling you. Let's talk it out!

You know I love to talk about trash, so come trash talk with me while you support local farmers and producers!

Details about the West Asheville Tailgate Market can be found here.

April 2025 Collection Point:

This month, we will be collecting USED MUGS for 12 Baskets Cafe.

Usually, we would say ONLY bring us donations in good condition (*if you wouldn't give it to your friend, you should not donate it*), but The Eco Depot is collecting mugs in all conditions to repurpose in art projects. But damaged mugs are only accepted at this specific collection point with The Green Assistant on April 22nd, from 3:30 - 6:30 at 718 Haywood Road.

You can donate your GOOD mugs directly to 12 Baskets (610 Haywood Rd in West Asheville).

Note: Ceramics are NOT recyclable in the municipal recycling, so please dispose of them appropriately.

Yeah, the trash.

Alternatively, you can safely break them and:

  • use as filler in a potted plant,

  • use as mosaic pieces,

  • use as plant markers in the garden,

  • use as decoration (as long as the sharp edges are not a danger to any beings in the area)

Or you can plant a succulent in a cracked mug (they don’t need much water so you don’t have to worry about the leak!)

There is so much life left in your stuff! Let me know how you use old mugs by emailing me at thegreenassistant@gmail.com or come Meet Me at the Market!
